Position Summary:
Northwestern California University School of Law invites applications for the position of Associate Academic Dean. Work in this position would involve assisting in the school’s curricular and programmatic initiatives supporting faculty, staff, and students. The Associate Academic Dean position is a faculty appointment that entails the duties and responsibilities listed below.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Academic Dean shall work with the Academic Dean, other staff members, and faculty. Specific duties and responsibilities of the position include assisting them with the following:
1. Maintaining the curriculum appropriate to the school’s law study program;
2. Upholding appropriate academic standards for the school’s law study program;
3. Supporting and communicating with the students, prospective students, teaching faculty members and exam proctoring representatives;
4. Initiating collaborative relationships with other institutions and state agencies in the delivery of the law study program;
5. Facilitating implementation of LexisNexis online law library services for use by students;
6. Providing day-to-day management of web-based programs;
7. Coordinating the implementation of instructional technology for students, via the school’s eJuris® course management platform, for all courses and workshops;
8. Answering emails sent to the school by students, prospective students, and others;
9. Reviewing and processing applications for enrollment;
10. Arranging for the opening of new student files and requesting and reviewing needed transcripts and reports;
11. Coordinating the administration of final examinations for all students;
12. Instructing in one or more subject areas;
13. Calculating and recording final course grades, then posting them to transcripts;
14. Attending certain State Bar meetings.
Minimum Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an American Bar Association Approved, or a California State Bar Accredited or Registered law school; and either active or inactive bar membership in one or more states of the United States. The position is open for consideration of applications from entry level and experienced attorneys who possess:
Excellent interpersonal and writing skills;
Demonstrated conflict resolution skills;
Sound Judgment;
Ability to work independently and organize time;
Skills in word-processing; familiarity with computers and standard office technology and software; ability to learn to use university databases;
Knowledge and comprehensive understanding of student records management principles, regulations, policies, and procedures; or an interest in gaining such knowledge and understanding.
Collaborative work style;
Ability to apply creative problem-solving skills;
Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.

Northwestern California University School of Law (NWCULaw®) was founded 43 years ago in 1982. The school offers a fully California accredited online law study program leading to the presentation of the Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree. It currently has approximately 800 enrolled students, and over the many years of the school's history, a large number of its graduates have gone on to successfully practice law.
The school’s law study program was developed so that economic obstacles, family commitments, remoteness of location, and other hardships would not prevent deserving individuals from studying law.
